Actual Classes w/ a side of Internet

Question: How many Koreans does it take to install a dsl modem and configure a laptop?

Answer: I don’t know, but most of them in Pohang were in and out of our apartment on Tuesday trying to get it to work. I recall seeing someone outside collecting a cover charge to hang around inside here by the hour.

You've got to be bloody kidding me.

Ah, Korea…. Land of the Morning Calm.

I woke this morning to my first day off since arriving. Nothing on the agenda but popping by the PC Bong to check my email and perhaps taking some nice photos of the ocean and the city. Maybe even spend the afternoon wandering around, poking my head into shops, and generally just snooping around.

GOOD EATS W/ A SIDE OF SHOWER

We’ve got a bathtub in our bathroom, but there’s no shower curtain. As in there’s not supposed to be one. This is commonplace.

I can appreciate variances in culture and say “Well yeah, I can understand why they do that this way.” But I’m completely stumped on this one. They choose to just make a huge fucking mess everytime they bathe? Water all over the floor (all bathrooms come with sandals to wear when you’re in there), and I’m sure I’ll slip and break an arm or something. There’s also no water pressure, to it’s like having some little people perched up in the corner peeing on you.

LUNCH

We woke up this morning after a late night at a “Mr. Lee’s Bar”. We’ve been told Mr. Lee is the only Korean we need to know. Anything we need- he can hook us up. It’s a cozy little bar where the foreigners hang out, and we decided to pop by to introduce ourselves.

What? What? Sorry? Hello? Thank you? What?

What is ‘? It’s not on my keyboard at home…

Well we’ve made it. After being up for 26 hours, we grabbed a room in Seoul, then were up bright and early for the 3rd flight of our journey and arrived in Pohang(which i’ve discovered is pronounced Pohong) at 9:30 this beautiful Friday morning.

Did I mention no one speaks English? Yeah, no one speaks English. But that’s ok. This place is crazy, but great. Haven’t seen any dogs yet. Though I did see a cat.

And the scooters! They’re everywhere! And everyone is a crazy driver!

Anyway, I gotta get out of here, but I’ve got some juicy pics lined up for you, so stay tuned!

Time to go

We’ve moved out, and it’s less than 11 hours before I leave for the airport. I really want to thank Englebert for coming by to help me move, and hopefully the nightmares of people living under the stairs won’t haunt him for too long.

I can’t believe it’s finally happening. I had these great plans to do a huge post but I just don’t have the damn time.

I’ll miss you all, and thank you for your friendship over the years.

The bike had a failure to motivate.

Well I’m back.

Tonight I captured the last of our home videos. Do you realize that of all the times I’ve been on TV and the radio, the only thing I have taped is from fucking InterTOOB? For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s an internet television station in Calgary, that lasted a whole week or so, and cost the owner over 30 000 dollars.

Anyway, A-Channel came by the studio, and we were to do some improv. I had told the guys ‘Let’s not do the ‘One Word Game’, since everyone sucks at it.” And when the host came by, what did we play? The fucking One Word Game…And I’ll post the segment this week so you can see how shitty it was..Ugh.. I swear it is the bane of my existance…

On an even sadder note, I need to pack up my speakers to bring over to Alex…They’ve served me well, and they will be sorely missed…They are awesome speakers, and the thump of the sub has always given me pleasure. But I’m sure Mr. Castro will take great care of them, and in turn they will provide him with hours and hours of aural enjoyment.

Getting Closer

Tonight I sat down to a plate of curried chicken for the last time for quite a while…

I cherished every morsel, savoured the scent and textures. Aftwards I wept openly. Mind you – that was while I was sitting on the toilet, and it was because I made it really, really spicy, and it wasn’t much fun coming out as it was going in…

Today I was thinking about leaving Neteller. The guys (and Eileen) in the Infrastructure Team are really great people. We get along famously and they all know their shit. I almost regret leaving so soon, because I know I’d do well there, working with them. And I feel bad that Mike See recommended me for the position, just to have me screw off out of the country a month later.

But hey, we must go where the wind takes us. Or something to that effect – I know that sounded really odd – you get my point.

I’ve updated the calendar, so you can take a look at our schedule for the next few weeks, and if you want to get together, you’ll know when we’re free.

Epiphany

Today a little bird told me that I’ve been neglecting my website. I apologize for this. But there’s just been nothing of interest going on in my life.

But something tells me that will change very shortly. Which also means frequent updates. How’s that sound?

BTW, “Saved!” sucked.

My definition is this;

{FADE FROM BLACK}

[Scene 1]

The car was having problems starting.

The car is now in the shop.

They gave us a loaner car.

That car wouldn’t start this morning.

[End Scene 1]

So I took a cab to work today, and then Superstar by Love INC came on the radio. The driver cranked up the music and yelled at the top of his lungs “Baybee, joo are like a SUPERSTAR!”, while popping forms in the church of dance.

Two hands on the wheel please.
