We had the Starring You! show tonight, and talk about smoke and burn..I was on my way out the door to have lunch with Claudia in Villefranche when Andy called and said that the 4 of us had to come back to the ship at 5 to hunt down 2 people to tell jokes for the show. This pissed Breanna, Andrea and I off because Andy has 5 hours to accomplish this himself since he's on duty. But anyway...
So when we got back to the ship, I called him to see if he had found anyone. He said know, so I stormed upstairs to the pool deck, and in less than 10 minutes I had found 2 people who were willing to join the show. Was that so fucking hard?

I'm totally pulling your leg. Sorry for the lack of updates this cruise, but as planned - I've started to have a social life, so I'm out a lot more after work. Things are going great, I'm finding my groove at work and beginning to build some friendships among the staff. I had my first "duty day" on Friday, which meant I was the only activities staff member on board during the day, so I was responsible for everything. The day went well, though a bit taken aback when I discovered that the Activities Director and Cruise Director both decided to forward their calls to my phone and left the ship as well.
The guest comments from last cruise arrived today, and there was 3 regarding me, so that's pretty cool. Also, it turns out that I've been suckered back into doing the Moulin Rouge, and it's a talent show in DRAG, so some of the "boys" are going to help me with some sort of costume. I've decided to do a juggling act involving raw eggs.
Don't ask...

Tonight we had our "Starring You" awards, where we take a few of the most talented guests from various activities throughout the cruise and have them perform, and then we award the best of each category with a prize. The show starts with the band playing, and then the 4 of us rise up out of the stage on a rising platform. We head offstage and then each of us comes out to present one of our nominees (I was presenting the comedian award) in turn, and then cycle through for the second and then the announcement of the winner. We stood off stage and when it was my time to go, I stepped out and over to the podium with the mic and introduced the first nominee. As I came offstage, Breanna asked me if I had been told what to say. I said "No" and asked if I didn't do it correctly. She said "No, it was great - I saw you didn't bring out any cue cards, so I wondered how you knew what to say."Because I OWN, that's why. I then noticed that all three of them used cue cards, even though they had been doing this for months...Oh well, what can I say - I rock this job.
PS. I was looking at my schedule tomorrow - 10am - 11am Socialize. That's a pretty busy day. We've all got the night off, and we're going to dinner together, and then we've got 2 overnights in Venice - sweet!

Not only do I have no idea what day of the week it is, I also can't keep track of time. Not only is the idea of sleep at night and work during the day completely foreign for this job (4 or 5 hours at night and then power naps during the day), but we also go through a timezone twice each cruise. So we change the time forward and 2 days later change it back, so my internal clock has told me to fuck off and quit on me.| 31 July 2008
What to say, what to say...I worked for about an hour this morning from 7am, ate breakfast and then went back to bed until 7:30pm. It's surprisingly easy if you try it.Last night I had a drink with the Cruise Director, and we discussed an idea he had proposed to me on my second day - to have an "Evening of Magic in Michael's Bar", which is an intimate piano/spirits bar. Since he knew I was a magician, he wanted to take advantage of it and have me do a routine during one of the formal nights followed by a short instructional segment so the guests can learn a trick or two. I told him to give me another cruise to finish getting into the swing of things and then come up with some sort of routine. I think it's a great idea, and it's pretty cool because I'd be the only member of the Activities Staff that has my own "feature".
Score one for Greg!
